HOW TO SERVE
A MAN LIKE
VICTOR MORETTI

NOT THE BOY — MØTH

Nobody applies for the job.
Nobody is trained for it.

One day Victor Moretti walks into your life, and suddenly you are responsible for things no handbook has ever explained.

Like private jets. Like black panthers. Like men who leave before sunrise. Like doctors who stay too long.

The following notes were recovered from various personal archives between 2024 and 2025. Their authenticity remains disputed.

PERSONAL ARCHIVE / UNDATED.

RULE #01

Never ask where he’s been.

Victor always arrived as if he had just left somewhere else.

Paris. New York. Milan. Tokyo.

The destinations changed. The exhaustion didn’t.

For years, everyone assumed he loved traveling. Eventually we realized he was simply avoiding arrival.

ARRIVAL WAS NEVER THE POINT.
ARRIVAL WAS NEVER THE POINT.

RULE #02

Do not wake him.

Especially on airplanes. Especially after seventy-two hours without sleep. Especially when he finally stops moving.

The silence is rare. Let him keep it.

THE SILENCE IS RARE.
THE SILENCE IS RARE.

RULE #03

Wealth is not the same thing as peace.

Most people imagine Victor living inside a fantasy.

The houses. The cars. The views. The staff. The endless rooms.

They never notice how empty large houses become after midnight.

AN EMPTY ROOM IS STILL A ROOM.
AN EMPTY ROOM IS STILL A ROOM.

RULE #04

Do not mistake attention for affection.

Victor was generous with his attention. Dangerously generous.

He remembered names. Birthdays. Favorite drinks. Childhood stories.

People often confused this for love. Many paid for that mistake.

ATTENTION HAS A LONG MEMORY.
ATTENTION HAS A LONG MEMORY.

RULE #05

Understand that some kisses are temporary.

Paris. A bar. Too much wine. Not enough caution.

Two beautiful men convincing themselves that beauty could solve loneliness.

It couldn’t. Nothing happened after the photograph. Except memory.

EXCEPT MEMORY.
EXCEPT MEMORY.

RULE #06

Keep coffee ready.

Two espressos. No discussion. No substitutions.

The blue BOBO bubble gum should remain nearby.

Nobody remembers when that habit started. Nobody remembers who introduced it. Victor never explained.

The habit survived longer than most relationships.

TWO ESPRESSOS.
TWO ESPRESSOS.

RULE #07

Do not ask about the photographs on the refrigerator.

If you notice them. Pretend you didn’t. Close the door. Walk away.

Some evidence is left in plain sight because nobody is supposed to mention it.

EVIDENCE IN PLAIN SIGHT.
EVIDENCE IN PLAIN SIGHT.

RULE #08

Learn to recognize loneliness wearing expensive clothes.

The boardrooms. The family offices. The foundations. The lawyers. The endless meetings.

People think power looks impressive from the outside. Inside, it mostly looks like obligation.

OBLIGATION HAS A DRESS CODE.
OBLIGATION HAS A DRESS CODE.

RULE #09

Allow him to disappear.

Victor occasionally vanished. Not physically. Emotionally.

A room could be full of people. He would already be somewhere else.

Usually with a view. Usually alone.

SOMEWHERE ELSE.
SOMEWHERE ELSE.

RULE #10

Never interrupt a man reading about love.

Particularly when he has no idea how it works.

Victor purchased six copies of How To Love. The pages remained suspiciously untouched.

THE PAGES REMAINED UNTOUCHED.
THE PAGES REMAINED UNTOUCHED.

RULE #11

Accept that the panther lives here now.

Nobody voted on it. Nobody approved it. One day Bobo appeared. Then stayed.

The panther trusted Victor immediately. Which should probably have worried everyone.

BOBO STAYED.
BOBO STAYED.

RULE #12

Understand that dangerous men often love dangerous animals.

For the same reason. Neither expects to be understood.

NEITHER EXPECTS TO BE UNDERSTOOD.
NEITHER EXPECTS TO BE UNDERSTOOD.

RULE #13

Before impact, everyone can still fly.

There is a photograph of Victor diving into a pool somewhere along the Mediterranean.

No location. No date. No explanation.

Only a moment suspended between certainty and consequence.

Looking at it now, it feels less like a vacation photo. More like a prophecy.

CERTAINTY / CONSEQUENCE.
CERTAINTY / CONSEQUENCE.
PRIVATE EVIDENCE / 2025

RULE #14

There will be nights he cannot sleep.

He will wander through kitchens. Open refrigerators. Stand in the cold light.

Not because he is hungry. Because movement feels easier than thinking.

COLD LIGHT.
COLD LIGHT.

RULE #15

Mirrors are unavoidable.

Money cannot negotiate with reflection.

Every morning Victor stood in front of the mirror. Every morning the mirror returned the same question.

Who are you when nobody needs anything from you? Neither side ever answered.

NEITHER SIDE ANSWERED.
NEITHER SIDE ANSWERED.

RULE #16

Then came Eli Carter.

A doctor. Which was unfortunate.

Doctors tend to believe people can be saved.

Victor Moretti was not a patient. He was a weather system.

A WEATHER SYSTEM.
A WEATHER SYSTEM.

RULE #17

Do not underestimate quiet people.

Eli never competed for attention. Never tried to impress anyone.

Never cared about the things Victor usually used to control a room.

That made him dangerous. Victor noticed immediately.

VICTOR NOTICED.
VICTOR NOTICED.

RULE #18

The problem with doctors is that they keep looking.

Most people stop once they see enough. Doctors continue.

Through the lies. Through the performance. Through the armor.

Eventually Eli found the frightened man underneath. Victor hated that. Victor loved that.

SOMEONE FINALLY LOOKED.
SOMEONE FINALLY LOOKED.

RULE #19

This is where the handbook stops being useful.

Because there is no procedure for what happened next.

No protocol. No training. No contingency plan.

Just two men making increasingly bad decisions for increasingly good reasons.

NO PROCEDURE FOR WHAT HAPPENED NEXT.
NO PROCEDURE FOR WHAT HAPPENED NEXT.

FINAL RULE

You cannot serve Victor Moretti.

Many people tried. Employees. Friends. Lovers. Family. None succeeded.

The truth is simpler. Victor never needed someone to serve him. He needed someone willing to stay.

Most people left. A few were forced to. One doctor almost didn’t.

Victor alone beside a pool at night
NO ONE CAN STAY FOR YOU.
